Ayahuasca, a psychedelic visionary plant medicine from the Amazon Jungle, is making headlines. NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers is publicly speaking about his use of Ayahuasca for personal growth, healing and to unleash peak performance. Rodgers went to Peru in 2020 and 2022 to experience ayahuasca and receive its healing benefits.
Ayahuasca, a relatively unknown plant medicine from the Amazon, is starting to gain widespread popularity. The plant, often referred to as “the medicine”, is known for producing an overall lasting sense of well-being and promoting mental health.
In a recent interview, Rodgers told NBC’s Peter King in an article published this week that the plant medicine had changed his life.
“We sat three different nights with the medicine. I came in with an intention of doing a lot of healing of other relationships and bringing in certain people to have conversations with,” Rodgers said.
Participants sit in groups and receive the ayahuasca from a ceremonial leader or “medico vegetalista, doctor of plants.” The experience can be very intense with time of deep introspection and self-awareness. The ayahuasca produces a very lucid state of mind where mental and emotional healing and personal transformation can take place. Do not think of this as your average party drug trip.
“Most of the work was around myself and figuring out what unconditional love of myself looks like of myself. In doing that, allowing me to understand how to unconditionally love other people but first realizing its gotta start with myself. I’ve got to be a little more gentle with myself and compassionate and forgiving because I’ve had some negative voices, negative self-talk, for a long time. A lot of healing went on.” Rodgers continued.
“I think I just fell in love with [football] a little bit deeper,” he said. “Again, I think a lot of that is due to the work that I’ve done on myself. It hasn’t all been just the ayahuasca journey. It’s been therapy. It’s been meditation. It’s been changing habits that weren’t giving me any type of joy. Eating better. Taking care of myself a little bit better. Being more gentle with myself. All those things have allowed me to look at each day with a little more joy.”
Tens of thousands of people around the world have reported positive outcomes from their ayahuasca experiences, but experts say it must be treated with caution. Hamilton Souther, founder of Blue Morpho, a world renowned Amazonian Plant Medicine Center located in Peru recently shared, “It is really important to find a reputable, safe, professional center to have your ayahuasca experiences. This is a very serious plant medicine that needs to be used with the upmost care. There are dangers associated with using ayahuasca and you need to do this with trained professionals who know how to safely prepare you and guide you through the experience. I founded Blue Morpho over twenty years ago and we have safely guided thousands of guests from over 100 countries worldwide. We appreciate NFL athletes speaking about the healing benefits of Ayahuasca. Aaron Rodgers is courageous for openly speaking about his ayahuasca experiences.”
People typically find Ayahuasca centers like Blue Morpho online. Blue Morpho offers 6 day retreats including 4 ayahuasca ceremonies. www.bluemorphotours.com
